What is the Home Buyers Plan (HBP)

There is a great program offered to assist first time homebuyers buy or build their first home... It's called the Home Buyers Plan or HBP.  Currently this program allows you to withdraw up to $35,000 from your RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan) without withholding tax or income tax consequences for your purchase… That's $35,000 per planholder in the family  ($35,000 for the husband and $35,000 for the wife) 


How it works…

1.  Determine if you qualify as a first time home homebuyer.  Have you,  your spouse, or common law spouse owned a home in the last 4 year period

The four-year period  begins on January 1st of the fourth year before the year you withdraw the funds and ends 31 days before the date…

Our History at Home...

For those that may not know,  our team is deeply committed to the history of our area.  We moved our family to the area in 2000 and have been permanent residents ever since.  Before that our roots were deeply seeded in the area with our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents being original  settlers in Southern Georgian Bay (More about that in future posts).  Currently , we are actively involved in the Stayner Heritage Society, and the Collingwood Historical Society helping with their websites and historical presentations.

What better topic to begin Our Future at Home blog  with than a look at the infamous QR Code.  Although they have been around for a while, up until the early 2020's I'm going to suggest that most people either had not heard of them or didn’t give them a second thought.  Flash forward a year or so and now they are an everyday part of our life.  Whether it be to demonstrate vaccination status, perusing a restaurant menu, or to activate or find instruction on new purchases and technology, the QR code is a standard go to.  Despite QR Codes being common you shouldn’t worry if you still find them confusing… you are not alone.
